Our new Northern Care Alliance NHS Group unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.

The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations – Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of ‘Saving lives, Improving lives’, the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.

Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be.  This is a really exciting time to join our new team.

The Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences based at Salford Royal Foundation Trust is looking for a Consultant Neurologist with an interest in Movement Disorders to join an established team of 37 plus Consultant colleagues, delivering inpatient and outpatient services across Greater Manchester. Salford Royal has one of the strongest track records of providing excellent patient care services, financial delivery and staff satisfaction in the NHS and has recently become only the second Trust in the country to earn an overall rating of ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

You must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to work cohesively as part of a multidisciplinary team. To be eligible for consideration you must be on the GMC Specialist Register or a Specialist Registrar within six months of your CCST date at the interview date.

Our movement disorder service provides tertiary level care to the whole of Greater Manchester, making it one of the larger specialist services in the U.K. You will join two existing movement disorder specialist consultants, and six specialist nurses in Parkinson’s and dystonia, to maintain and expand this service. We provide specialist services for Parkinson’s disease (including non-motor and neuropsychiatry specialist clinics), dystonia, tremor and have a regional clinic for atypical parkinsonian syndromes.

We have an expanding deep brain stimulation surgery programme for Parkinson’s disease as well as other movement disorders, and provide apomorphine and Duodopa therapies for Parkinson’s disease. We have strong links with Ageing and Complex Medicine services, palliative care and neuropsychology.

Initially you would do one general movement disorder clinic a week, although we will look to accommodate your specific interests in developing the service further. We are a strongly research-active department and you will have the opportunity to be involved in research studies and develop any research interests. In return, you will benefit from working in a high performing organisation in which you will be able to enhance your skills further. The opportunity also exists for you to develop a specialty interest, which can be discussed in more detail with the Clinical Director for Medical Neurosciences.

Salford Royal has teamed up with housing association Salix Homes to provide a 26-apartment complex for doctors, nurses and other clinical staff new to the Trust. Please enquire upon appointment to review availability.

In line with the Trust’s Single Equality Scheme we welcome applications from everyone irrespective of ethnic origin, disability, age, gender, sexual preference, disability, nationality, religion, marital status, social back ground or trade union membership. However, as members of ethnicity minority groups, individuals with disabilities and women are currently under-represented at this level of post, we would encourage applications from members of these groups. Appointment will be based on merit alone.
