Our new Northern Care Alliance NHS Group unites five local hospitals to deliver high quality care across the North East of Greater Manchester.

The Alliance provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites which make up four new Care Organisations – Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester, Oldham and Salford. Using our mantra of ‘Saving lives, Improving lives’, the aim is for our Care Organisations to work closely with the communities they serve to deliver safe, high quality and reliable care, which are trusted, connected and pioneering.

Our Care Organisations are designed to operate within our group arrangement of hospitals, community and healthcare services which bring together over 17,000 staff and the services of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Our size and geographical reach means we are creating an environment each individual will be inspired and empowered by to be the best they can be.  This is a really exciting time to join our new team.

• SALARY: £76,761 - £103,490 PA • FULL TIME • REF: 352-M&D-CONHISTO-O6

The Cellular Pathology team at The Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust are looking to appoint a quality driven Histopathology Consultant to join their high performing team on our Royal Oldham Hospital site. We are looking to enhance our skilled and committed team of 13 consultants with individuals who can drive our continued success and contribute to an exciting future.

The Pathology Department at The Royal Oldham Hospital is housed in a purpose built and innovatively designed laboratory providing a comprehensive clinical and diagnostic service across the Trust. The Department is CPA/UKAS Accredited and has IBMS and RCPath Training Approval. The state of the art facilities have been designed and constructed with the professional in mind. Each consultant has their own personal office, fully equipped with microscope and PC station. There are height adjustable benches throughout the department, links to video conferencing and a fully supportive admin team available throughout the day.

The team delivers high quality outcomes to four local care organisations across the Trust so it goes without saying is a valued resource processing approximately 37,000 Cellular Pathology team samples and 5,000 Diagnostic Cytology samples per annum.

The department is one of few in the GM area which offers a breast one stop clinic for same day reporting on breast FNA and breast cores. Additionally the team’s knowledge and experience in lung cancer diagnosis is well established given that they diagnose more than double the numbers of lung cancer cases than anyone else in the GM region. There are a wide range of specimens reported including Head and Neck and Lymphoreticular.
