 Enthusiastic and highly motivated clinicians are invited to submit an application for the post of Consultant in Respiratory and General Medicine to join our dynamic team of consultants who are experts in their respective fields. These are replacement posts. The main inpatient site of clinical activity will be at North Manchester General Hospital, however, the post holder may be required to attend other hospital locations which form part of the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

This is an exciting time to join the Trust due to current and future developments in the region. The Trust works closely with Salford Royal Foundation Trust and with our health and social care partners, including our local NHS commissioners, other providers and local councils across Greater Manchester. It is envisaged that future development of The City of Manchester Single Hospital Service will ensure that standards of care are consistent across the city.

The Respiratory Service at Pennine provides services to a catchment population of 820,000 in the North-East sector of Greater Manchester. As well as dedicated inpatient facilities the service also provides chest clinics supported by specialist nurses and allied health professionals. The service also runs world class specialist services including asthma, lung cancer, interstitial, occupational lung, pleural and sleep clinics. Bronchoscopies, EBUS and thoracoscopy are among the planned investigations that are undertaken as well as a specific bronchial challenge suite. We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a subspecialty interest to complement and enhance the service that we provide.

 

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a subspecialty interest in asthma to complement and enhance our current service in severe and difficult asthma. North Manchester is a co-founding member of the North West Severe Asthma Operational delivery Network and is a designated specialist assessment and treatment center. The post holder will be involved in general asthma clinics and with over 100 patients established on biologics, partake in omalizumab and mepolizumab clinics. We also run sub specialty asthma and fungal disease clinics and are a regional severe asthma transition centre. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop our existing disordered breathing service and to work closely with our occupational asthma service and will be actively involved in audit and research.

 

In patient work includes working on ward I6 (respiratory ward) at North Manchester General Hospital and taking part in a general medical on-call rota. The general medical take is managed by Acute Physicians 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and only involves post take ward rounds after 6pm in the weekdays. Acute physicians are also present during weekend hours. Our mission statement, "to provide the very best care for each patient on every occasion" is enshrined in our organisational values. It has excellent links by road and rail to the Peak District, Lake District and the Fylde coast.
